Obituary for Dorothy McElroy
Dorothy Louise Hardin McElroy was born to Vesta and Monroe Hardin on April 15, 1926 in Siloam, Greenup County, Kentucky. She went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2017. “Dot”, to her friends and family, graduated from McKell High School South Shore, Kentucky in 1944. After graduating from Portsmouth Business College, Dot worked as a secretary for the Corps of Engineers on the Greenup Locke and Dam, where she met R.L. “Mac” McElroy, her future husband. Dot and Mac followed construction work living in Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. While Mac was busy overseeing concrete pours she took care of the home and worked in various jobs as a secretary and administrative assistant. She was always active in church and was currently a member of Eastside Church of Christ. She made lifelong friends wherever she lived. Dot and Mac retired in Conway, Arkansas where they both loved to fish and visit family scattered around the area. After Mac’s death, Dot moved to Muskogee where she maintained her own household until 2011 when she moved in with her son and his family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Vesta and Monroe; husband, R.L. “Mac” McElroy; three sisters, Geneva Hardin, Anna Lee Cleary and Juanita Hayden, all of South Shore, Kentucky; and step-daughter, Joanna Corder of Conway, Arkansas.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Tim McElroy and his wife Lonnie; granddaughter, Mallory of Muskogee; grandson, Meade of Muskogee; grandson, Miles and wife, Rachel and their children, Sophia, Olivia and Miles Jr. of Springfield, Missouri; grandson, Mason and wife Lorisha and their children, Edmund, Abigail, Jackson and Evelyn of Fair Grove, Missouri; grandson, Michael Corder and wife Amy and their children, Shelby, Abbie Beth and Kinley of Vilonia, Arkansas; grandson, Matthew Corder and children, Addi and Greyson of Conway Arkansas; as well as extended family in both Kentucky and Arkansas.
She will be missed.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Dorothy McElroy will be held at 10:00 am, Friday March 31, 2017 in the Bradley Belltower Chapel with Pastor Brad Schell officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Conway, Arkansas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Bryan Young, Miles, Mason, Meade McElroy, Michael Corder, Matthew Corder, Charles Deming, Mike Glover and Chris Glover.
The family would like to thank the staff at Eastar Health System, Cornerstone Hospital, and Eastgate Village Healthcare Center for their compassionate care for Dot during her bout with pneumonia.
