Obituary for Leonah W. Simmons
Leonah W. (Biggs) Simmons, 79, died August 26, 2017 in Muskogee. She was born August 3, 1938 in Muskogee County, the daughter of Herbert Biggs and Marie Garland Biggs Stevens.
On September 3, 1954, she married Richard Simmons, a marriage which lasted till Richard’s death on December 2, 2013.
She attended Central High School. She was a homemaker and stayed at home to raise her two children. She then went to work at Anderson Wholesale of Muskogee. Then, she became a book keeper at Fort Gibson Tag Office until the agent’s retirement in 1991.
Leonah and her husband enjoyed camping, fishing and treasure hunting all over the area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one great-grandson, Derrick Berry.
She is survived by one son, Ron and wife Debbie Simmons of Wagoner, Oklahoma, one daughter, Barbara and husband Don Walton of Muskogee; a sister, Mable Taylor of Fort Gibson and a brother Jim Biggs and wife Mary of Van Buren, Arkansas; grandchildren, Angie Turner of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stephen Clopton of Muskogee and Michael Hough of Geneva, Indiana; two great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Leon Simmons, Tom Taylor, Bryce Taylor, Steven Biggs, Joe Herrmann, Alan Simmons, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Simmons and Bill Simmons.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 1:30 p.m., at the Bradley Belltower Chapel with Brother Kelly Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
